On the Drawing Board: Adding 'depth of flavor'

I'd say about 98% of my pieces have faces.  Facial expressions capture focus set the tone of the painting. It's also where I begin my pieces.  The face is usually so crucial since it's where I can best ensure to evoke the emotions I want.  So when I approach a piece that has no facial expressions the other elements and body language have to carry that burden.  It also pushes me to add interest to some of those elements, as in the case of these white briefs.  Making them slightly pulled down and slightly translucent adds, to borrow a cooking term, 'depth of flavor'.

It always seems too early but never is by the time I get it all together and off to the printer.

On the Drawing Board: Outline #2

So sometimes I get two ideas going at once.   This will be an entirely different painting than the one I showed a piece of a few days ago.  

I am just realizing that this one has feet showing, as did my last painting "Dark and Stormy".  Well I have gotten requests by guys who like feet to do more...I guess it's your lucky month!

On the Drawing Board: What the..!?

Yep, I've switched teams.  It's just women for me from here on out.  Nothing but ladies, with lady bodies and lady parts!   Okay okay..I know I'm not fooling anyone.  But it's been a looooong time since I painted women.  And before you get upset I think you'll enjoy this painting.  I think it's a cute idea.  Kinda reminds me of the playfulness of "Toy Maker".

I've always liked summer storms, as long as I'm somewhere safe and cozy.  The idea of wild wet weather making everyone have to hunker down and just ride it out while Mother Nature put's on a show makes me a little excited.

On the Drawing Board: Mixing up some hair color

Much like blond hair, rendering red hair requires quite an array of colors to make it look authentic.  There are not only the variations in the color of the hair itself but being lighter than black or brown, it captures and is affected more by the light sources shining on it.

Outline done, time to begin a new pastel painting.  I'm toying with the idea of make this figure a ginger. What do you think? Oh and why are redheads called gingers? All the ginger root I've ever seen is pale yellow.
