On the Drawing Board: pixels by the pool

2014-09-24.jpg

My next piece is also inspired by a friend.  It's based on a phone pic he shared with me so the quality isn't great to work from.  I am making a big picture from a small section of a phone pic so the pixelation on the face is significant and impossible to do a good likeness.  It won't be so much a portrait but more a 'based on...' type of result.

New Original & Prints: "Daddy Cool" - PJ Terranova

I was lucky enough to snap a pic of my friend PJ Terranova this past August, and thrilled that he was on board when I mentioned I wanted to turn it into a pastel painting.

I was apprehensive about doing that tattoos but so glad I did, since they are part of him and also really adds to what makes this piece daddy cool

On the Drawing Board: essence of a man

Here my latest just as I am starting to put on the tattoos.  The left arm has a lot of design and I know I won't get it exact but I will hopefully get the essence of the tattoos.  After all a representation of elements is perfectly acceptable in art!  I am really pleased and as long as my friend PJ (the model) is really happy with it too, I can't ask for more.

2015 Collectible Calendar

My 2015 Collectible Calendar is now available for purchase.

Each calendar measures 8½" x 22" when opened, features 13 of my original pastel drawings, and is hand-signed by me, the artist.

Major holidays, moon phases, and important dates in GLBT history are noted.

On the Drawing Board: hard body tat challenge

Hanging out this summer with a well built friend, I snapped a few pics.   Since I celebrate the male form in my work, it seemed a natural next step to celebrate his hard work in my art.  I was glad that he was thrilled with the idea!

He has several tattoos and those things are damned hard to execute in pastels with fingers and some pencils.  I didn't include them in the sketch because I was think they they are too hard to do well, but they are very much a part of him, literally, so I'd hate to leave them out.  Challenged!

On the Drawing Board: Shot in the Dark

I hadn't been working on this piece very long before I knew it was likely to end up looking very different from what I initially imagined.  Often a piece will evolve and change as I work on it, but with four characters 'playing out a scene' and a setting that's rather dark but has numerous sources of various colored lights in play I don't know where it will end up. I also haven't yet decided if the the 'losers' should be completely naked or not.

On the Drawing Board: Hot Shot

I've never really had a terrible bout of artist's block.  Though from time to time I do have dry spells. I've learned that it's not due to a lack of ideas, but rather it's a lack of a strong desire to make it come alive.  So when I do have a dry spell I try not to fret.  It often helps to go out and see new things, have new experiences, and thus was the case with my 'strip pool' idea. :-)
