My original sketch had a different looking creature under the bed. Until I was almost finished, I also had another creature peering in the window. I guess that’s similar to when a sculptor says the wood or marble ‘speaks’ to them and tells them what’s inside the block. My paintings, as they coalesce, tell me what they want. I just have to be open to listening to them, even if I don’t want to erase and make changes. It’s almost always for the best if I listen.
