Nature is a powerful force. Some say nature is the handiwork of God. And some people think being gay is not “natural”. But since homosexuality occurs in nature, in humans and other species from giraffes to penguins, it most certainly is natural. The Grand Canyon, love, homosexuality... are all natural occurrences. They are neither right nor wrong. They just are.

The picture that was my inspiration for this painting was taken the morning after my boyfriend, at the time, and I had our first adventure hiking down the Grand Canyon. Sitting on the rim taking in its beauty, we looked down and found the Bright Angel Trail, a tiny line snaking its way down the canyon side, making out the point where we turned around and headed back. Though we never made it to the bottom, we both felt proud of our accomplishment, realizing that the Grand Canyon is not something to be "conquered", but an experience and a wonder to behold.
