Called the 5th season in Vermont, Mud Season is the period when the clay soil thaws on the surface but the ground beneath is still frozen. That makes travel on our dirt roads difficult. Getting stuck in it is no fun, but you can make mud pies, sling mud, and roll around in it with your hunky friends!

This winter has been a bit snowier than in the recent past, and spring has been wetter and cool, meaning mud season has been longer and more severe. As I right his our backyard is still squishy and going for a walk on the road means, boots. Boots that you leave in the mud room before going indoors.
